The Old Kirby Place has earned the reputation of creating delicious meals for sophisticated palates. Our meals, which we call Montana Gourmet cuisine (delicious and ample portions), are served on a long table made of pumpkin pine in the lodge's great room, or, weather-permitting, on the porch, complete with panoramic mountain and river views.

Happy Hour at The Old Kirby Place

When the long fun-filled day of fishing and adventure has concluded, it's time to retreat to our Caddis Shack, a patio located right along the banks of the Madison River. All alcoholic drinks are included in the price of your stay, and you'll want to try our signature cocktail the "Montana Mojito." In addition to beverages, we serve our guests appetizers, with the following regular features on the menu:

Dinner at The Old Kirby Place

First Course

  • Pear, Gorgonzola and walnut salad, with champagne vinaigrette
  • Crab and corn bisque
  • Tomato and buffalo mozzarella salad
  • Butternut squash soup with crème fraiche and garlic croutons


  • Chicken cacciatore with pasta and seasonal mixed vegetable
  • Salmon with lemon and caper sauce served on a bed of rice, and seasonal mixed vegetable
  • Grilled rib-eye steaks with sautéed mushrooms and onions, baked Idaho potatoes, and green beans with brown butter and pine nuts
  • Linguine with white clam sauce
