In the spring of 1900, Paul Jeffers and T.B. Long were hired to take a herd of about 600 cows to summer range above Hutchins. Unfortunately the wooden bridge over the Madison collapsed with the weight of the cows and they spilled into the river. The “new” bridge was built by Madison County in 1902.
