Visiting Yellowstone
The Old Kirby Place is the perfect destination for your Yellowstone experience to begin. A beautiful 20-minute drive along the north shore of Hebgen Lake lands you right in West Yellowstone where you’ll find access to the West Gate.
The West Gate is best known as the Geyser paradise. A 14-mile drive in from the gate and you’ll arrive at Madison. Heading south lands you in the Lower Geyser Basin which includes Fountain Paint Pot, the Firehole Lake Drive area and the Great Fountain Geyser. Don’t miss a stop at the Grand Prismatic Spring (Yellowstone’s most photographed feature). The colors of this thermal feature are not to be missed. Further south and you’ll reach the iconic Old Faithful (roughly an hour door-to-door from Old Kirby Place with normal traffic). Further north and you’ll find Norris Geyser Basin which is home to the Steamboat Geyser — world’s tallest geyser.
West Yellowstone, Montana offers dining, shopping, and attractions like the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center. It’s also a perfect stop to pick up groceries for your stay at Old Kirby Place, and to ensure you take full advantage of our full kitchen.
From Old Faithful to buffalo, elk, geese, osprey, eagles, moose, bear and wolves, there is much to see at Yellowstone. For more information please visit: http://www.nps.gov/yell/
